The Scout Report

nov 2013 - 17 004

Today I feel kind of punky.
Last night I encountered a skunky.
I was given a bath
which effects did not last
And I still smell really funky.

nov 2013 - 17 008

I reek awfully, but
my friend comforts me
He caresses my head,
inhaling with dread
as we both wait to be free of this misery.

nov 2013 - 17 009

Up on the Roost

When this old world starts a getting us down,
and people are just too much for us to face.

nov 2013 - 15 006

We’ll climb way up to the top of the stairs and all our cares just drift right into space.
aug 2013 - 29 031

On the roost, it’s peaceful, you can trust…and there the world below don’t bother us, no, no.
nov 2013 - 15 017

So when we begin feelin’ tired and beat, we’ll go up where the air is fresh and sweet.
We’ll get far away from the hustling crowd and all the rat-race noise down in the wheat.
On the roost, that’s the only place we know, look at the country, baby.
Where you just have to wish to make it so, let’s go up on the roost.

And at night we cozy up and get in close.
And, darlings, we are getting too verbose…so we’ll just end by telling you
That right smack dab on the edge of the woods, we found a paradise that gives a boost.
And if this old world starts a getting us down, there’s room enough for six
up on the roost, up on the roost, up on the roost.

The Chicks wish to thank The Drifters and James Taylor for their inspiration  ; )

A Year

A year ago today we arrived at our new home.  Bleary-eyed and sleep deprived, we drove up our long driveway at 2:00 a.m., through a blanket of fog, to see our long planned for house emerge before us.  It was a beautiful and welcome site and we have enjoyed our new environment more than we ever dreamed.

Looking back – we’ve accomplished a lot!!

We planted 12 apple trees.

We took apart our porch

…and screened and enclosed it…

july 2013-1 006

We fenced and planted a vegetable garden

…and, reaped the harvest

So Long, Friend

oct 2013 - 29 017

A golden forest

A tribute to

A friend who left too soon

We’ll miss him

We’ll miss his bigness

His big smile

His big booming voice

His big southern drawl

We feel for those who held him close and dear
