When this old world starts a getting us down,
and people are just too much for us to face.
We’ll climb way up to the top of the stairs and all our cares just drift right into space.
On the roost, it’s peaceful, you can trust…and there the world below don’t bother us, no, no.
So when we begin feelin’ tired and beat, we’ll go up where the air is fresh and sweet.
We’ll get far away from the hustling crowd and all the rat-race noise down in the wheat.
On the roost, that’s the only place we know, look at the country, baby.
Where you just have to wish to make it so, let’s go up on the roost.
And at night we cozy up and get in close.
And, darlings, we are getting too verbose…so we’ll just end by telling you
That right smack dab on the edge of the woods, we found a paradise that gives a boost.
And if this old world starts a getting us down, there’s room enough for six
up on the roost, up on the roost, up on the roost.
